I don’t usually do these title page type layouts because I don’t always start a new album for the year. But since I changed orientation this year by going with 8.5×11, I wanted to jump in with what page protectors I have and make a layout.
As I’ve mentioned before, music & lyrics are continually showing up on my scrapbook layouts, as I have a constant record player in my head. I like to include various songs and lyrics from the moment, even if it maybe doesn’t really support the photo or story. Sometimes it just reminds me of a certain time because that’s when the song was out.
For this 2016 layout, I used lyrics from 2 songs. One is Thomas Rhett’s Die a Happy Man. I heard this song for the first time back in November while I was away traveling and it made me think of B, & little pieces of our life. Especially the line dance around the fireplace. I have seen the Eiffel tower at night and we did drive a sports car down the coast of California. It brings back a few memories. The song has become really popular, reaching number one on the charts for a few weeks now. I decided to include it here to sort of establish a grounding thought for the year. A baseline. There are many of aspects to my life: work, family, friends, house, travel, scrapbooking, yoga, cooking, gardening, etc. But my most favorite part is sharing my life and adventuring with B.
For the lyrics, I printed them onto coated vellum paper with a laser printer (toner) then ran it through the Minc Mini with silver foil. (Disclaimer: It’s hard to photograph the shine of the foil) The large numbers are from American Crafts DIY Shop 2 Collection.
I included two black and white photos. B&W portraits are my fav.
On the back I let the front layout show through, totally fine with that. Keeping it light, cool and airy.
For the bottom pockets, I wanted to include the word Adventure. I chose this journal card with mint chevron stripes then stapled the Heidi Swapp acrylic letters with the Tim Holtz tiny attacher. I added the word together from Tim Holtz’s Small Talk Idea-ology stickers –> currently one of my favorite sticker collections. I added the camera wood veneer to finish it off.
For the right pocket, I used the same vellum/Minc technique as above. The lyrics are from Smashing Pumpkin’s song Thirty-three. It’s a song I really like and since I am in the midst of being 33 it just felt right for this layout. I’ve had a note to self to include these lyrics somewhere this year for a while. I added 33 the silver glitter Thickers to the top of the vellum.
This ended up being a very me layout with b&w photos, lines of type, lyrics, large numbers/alpha, white/gray/silver/mint colors…which I think is fitting for the album intro page. It feels good to just make something.
