Decorating for Halloween is my favorite, even more than the December holidays. I love orange, black, brown & warm tones. I love burning candles when it starts to get a little chilly to warm up the room. The mantel is probably my favorite spot to decorate, but it’s also challenging since it’s as long as the room. I like clusters and cheap repetition. To spruce up old items I will spray paint them, metallic gold can resurrect any outdated item.
I like to personalize my decor with photos or childhood items. For the letterpress tray I added Halloween style pattern paper to the slots, then strung some old Halloween photos of me and my brother dressed up as kids. In the top row of the tray, I added alphas to spell “trick or treat”. I thought of adding a longer poem to the whole tray, but since I was covering it with photos, didn’t make much sense. I want to try that one of these times though. Here is what my letterpress tray looked like before.
I finally got around to decorating the Heidi Swapp marquee letters I picked up from Target. B spray painted them black for me, then I added orange glitter tape to the interior and paprika stickles along the edge. I added a few Halloween stickers, but probably could’ve done without that. The America Crafts white chalk marker showed up really well with the spider web along the side. I am debating adding more doodles.
Love the glow.
My Mom made me this burlap wreath, love the black chevron burlap. I added two Halloween pins I found from my aunt’s pin collection. I made a mental note to check yard sales for more pins. Pins are a cheap, easy way to add a little something to all sorts of decor and linens. Love the vintage, enamel styles.
I have been slowly cleaning up and purging a bit. I try not to get too caught up in organizing my studio, but was trying to do some scrapping one day when I came across my paint drawer in disarray.
A little sorting and then…
I am always amazed at how little time this takes when I am in the mood.
As much as I am enjoying the stories and getting some tips from Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I am ok with how my periodic-purging system works.
